Restoration
To
repair or bring back to an original
condition.
Poster restoration is the fine
art of obscuring damage caused by age, mis-handling, and improper
storage. Quality restoration can greatly enhance the value of an old
poster, both monetarily and aesthetically. However, poorly done
restoration will always diminish the value of any piece.
Exceptional restoration skills
require many years of practical experience in the field. Collectively,
POSTER MOUNTAIN employs over
three decades of experience in poster restoration.
From comparatively simple fold line touch up, to complete
reconstruction, we take great care and pride in our work. We work
closely with our clients
to provide them with the level of restoration they are looking for and
can afford, while still staying true to the beauty and integrity of the
original artwork.

There
is no magic secret to performing extraordinary restoration. Our team of
highly skilled artisans perform a number of steps to bring damaged or
worn posters back to their original glory.
Post- Conservation Prep
Before
any paint or touch-up work is performed, the piece is prepped to create
a smooth, clean surface for restoration. We employ a novel technique in
patching that is more efficient, allowing for seamless blending with
the original piece without causing any damage to the poster itself. For
large areas of damage, it may be necessary to patch the area with
additional paper. For all of our paper replacement, we use only genuine
vintage paper culled from our vast library of old posters, with great
care taken to match the color and texture of original art.
Detailwork
When
it comes to restoration, there simply is no finer work than that done
by Poster Mountain. Our highly skilled team of artists, using
pencil and water-based media, painstakingly color match and fill each
area, virtually eliminating visible signs of damage such as fold-lines,
scratches or small tears.
Airbrushing
When
warranted or requested, our airbrushing skills are beyond compare.
Great care is taken to maintain as much of the original artwork as
possible while bringing out the former glory of the piece. Our
uniquely formatted paint is specially made for us to be extremely
opaque, so that less is needed to cover damaged spots. This helps
keep our airbrushing to a minimum, painting only the affected areas. We
do not paint entire borders as a matter of course like some other
studios do unless specifically requested by our clients.
